uni of glasgow or kent

I have been considering which university to go for biomedical engineering. I was told that kent has better lecturer and better employment opportunity in the future. However, I am concerned that glasgow has a higher reputation with 69th world ranking. Which university should I choose? I want to know more about the quality of the school and student voice about them.

Not been to either, but if one is going to give you a better education and better opportunities and the other just has a better ranking, go to the first. A better ranking isn't a good reason to choose a university based on. You'll do better if there's better teaching and opportunities
Hi there!
I'd definitely recommend choosing the university that offers the most appealing course to you rather than basing your decision on the university ranking, as the course itself is what will largely shape your university experience and potentially even your grades too. I've found that while applying for graduate jobs, employers appear a lot more interested in the grades you achieve rather than where your university ranks in the country.
Also, Kent has a Unibuddy system where prospective students can talk to current students to find out what the course is like, here's the link; https://www.kent.ac.uk/unibuddy/
You should be able to find a Unibuddy studying biomedical engineering who will be able to tell you all about what the course is like, the modules, facilities, and lecturers.
I'm in my third year at Kent and I have really enjoyed my time here! If you have any questions about student life (unfortunately I don't do biomedical engineering so can't directly help with course related questions) please feel free to ask, I'm more than happy to help
I hope that this helps!

Out if interest what other uni's did you apply for biomed engineering ? As I had also applied for the course (chose the clinical side instead) but out if my research, which was extensive, these two weren't the best in the subject area, they are both great uni's and the courses are good, so if you like the look of them then that'd fine. I'd pick Glasgow, but I haven't done enough research on Kent as its was discarded early during my search. I've personally picked Strathclyde which is the best apart from imperial. And they have one of the most extensive career services in the UK, as once you are there their drive is to get you into your desired career. I'll do some research into Kent, if it does have better career prospects then if choose that, overall ranking doesn't matter. Only subject ranking and career prospects.

I apply for city uni of london, kent, queens mary, glasgow and kings. The only uni i didnt get in is kings. Actually not only the overall ranking, glashow has higher ranking in the subject and is a russell group uni. It is more on research based and have better facilities as it has med school. Kent is more on lecturer and coursework. These is what my agent told me.besides, I found out that glasgow graduates mostly go for further studies or research field. personally, I like glasgow more. However, I also got an offer from Arizona State University in USA. I am not sure which offer to accept because UK and US have diverse education system and social life. Please do give me more opinion and information. Thx.

I can't give you much input on teh AMerican side of things, as I simply do not know, I did look on teh website for you but even then it wasn't much help, I'd suggest you ring them and ask (this is primarily a UK site so asking about american Uni's isn't going to give you good answers). Although Arizona is a very good Uni and I'm sure the social life and course would be good. Queen mary is very medical based not so much engineering it's more like BIOMEDICAL engineering, emphasis on teh first, I applied but found it a little too biological for my liking, although it was a lovely Uni when I went for an open day and if you are interested in more the biological side of it then it's a good choice. And from your statement it seems you ar more interested in Glasgow, after researching into Kent I have come to this conclusion as well. although both good Uni's and good courses, I feel Glasgow would give you more opportunities as they have a wider range of lecturers at their disposal specialising in many different projects, plus the medical school is a plus if you want to be researching the cutting edge technology. And perhaps lots of people go into further study or research but that doesn't mean you have to, there are loads of startup companies for biomedical engineering in and around Glasgow, it is teh hub of the north in that respect, so I'd choose Glasgow out of Kent. Also don't go to kings (I expect it's king's college london) hated teh place when I went for an open day, course is okay but it's in a bad part of london in terms of business and the building is like an office block. Ring Arizona and interrogate them about teh course and Uni, if not then consider Glasgow, but at teh end of the day it's your decision this opinion is purely just down to my research and going to open days, talking to lectures etc. It's good if you asked around as well yourself.

Ok thanks! Yea, it's King's College London (I didn't get an offer anyway). I will contact Arizona State Uni to learn more about their course. Maybe I don't even need to. I like glasgow much more and could really picture myself study there. I am just worried that it is not the best choice. My agent recommended me to go for Kent because its bachelor degree takes only 3 yrs while scotland needs 4 yrs which mean I have to pay more tuition fee and other costs, which I am quite ok with it. And, I actually want to do research in the future so I guess glasgow will be a better choice. You mentioned earlier that you too applied for biomedical engineering, so recently I came across to a question which is would you do a taught master or research master? My agent said there is no point for research master which I do not believe, so... Once again, thanks for yr opinion and information.

Yeah I considered apply to kings but really didn't like the place so never did apply. And a common misconception when applying to a Scottish Uni outside of Scotland is that you pay for the extra year, you do not (well at least for EU and UK people don't know for international). I get a free year for studying in Scotland (apart from living costs of course). But it might be different for you, you'll have to ask. And all Masters involve a research project as that is what masters is it's showing what you have learnt and putting it to use then getting graded on it. Most masters are taught first semester then you do your project in the second sitting exams and handing in your project at the end. I would much rather do research masters as I have some good ideas that I can put forward. But again this is down to the course, which I'm not fully versed in the exact details of, I'd say you ring them and ask, don't just go by your agents words. And if you want to go into research then yeah Glasgow is indeed better, do a little research yourself for Glasgow about the tuition fees and what is involved in the masters as that information would be good to know. And spending 4 years at a Uni for a Bachelor's isn't a bad thing, gives you more time to explore teh city and it's surroundings, chat to lecturers and just do everything Uni related, I'm going to a 4 year Bachelor then doing a single year masters after, teh first year is going to be relatively chill so I'm going to have time to explore the city and try clubs and societies.

Oh I never knew UK and EUstudents get a free year! No, as an international student, I have to pay for every single year which is really a lot, but I figured it would be worth it. Omg good to hear that you already have ideas about research project, I don't even know what subjects are needed for BE! I just figured that I love science, especially Maths Physics Bio, so BE will be great! Anyway, I am going to email Glasgow Uni, ring is impossible haha! It costs a lot for international calls. I would check more about the master degree, preferably research master. Thanks. Hope you have a great time in yr future uni.
