Universal credit/maintenance grant for single parents
Hi I’m really desperately hoping someone has some answers or advice. Universal credit are an absolute nightmare to deal with! Basically I applied and got a place at Swansea uni to start September doing an education degree. Before I start the degree which is full time I need to know exactly how much I’ll be getting in universal credit. When I called them they won’t give me an exact amount until I fill in the application which will stop my tax credits as i currently work part time.
Does anyone know a way around this? I’ve been told that universal credit count maintenance loans/grants as income which is just ridiculous considering you have to pay it back? I’ve read that they can’t however take into account the parents learners allowance, childcare grant or special support grant. The rest that’s left over you divide by the amount of months your course is for example 9 months then minus £110 a month from that amount and that’s the amount universal credit take from your monthly award.
Any advice would be a great help!
