OFFICIAL POST #2 - New Horizons?Hiya everyone
! I hope you've all been swell.
I replied to those of you that had written me replies to my last post AND written up an account of my first day but my school WiFi was being sh*tty meaning it didn't go through
. I'll get to your replies as soon as I'm done with this post, although for those of you that asked questions, some will be answered here too.
My first day went OK! It wasn't really much of a 'learning' experience, since we were just being told about all the new rules and regulations around our sixth form. I was with my form, but we've been told that we won't be seeing them for some time
. We're normally in our forms for activities together/competing against others for various things and doing a register together, but that chill time is being scrapped for the moment. We'll be registered in by our individual teachers in our classes. We're also being bubbled as a year group and kept to a single area of the school, to avoid as much contact with the other years as possible. This means I haven't seen the newbie Year 12s yet, which is a bummer
.
Besides that, I guess I should give you a rundown of how it's all going down in my subjects!
E N G L I S H L I T E R A T U R ETeacher 1 - We've started our work on the selected Christina Rossetti poems, which we have to compare to our gothic text (A Doll's House, which is a play by Henrik Ibsen) in our exam. Surprisingly, I'm enjoying it! I'm not the biggest fan of poetry, even though I'm a literature student, so it was a bitter pill to swallow when I found out there was a big chunk of poetry to learn, but Rossetti is definitely an interesting lady! I'm loving the context behind it too, like finding out what it was like in the past. I guess that's the historian in me coming out too
Teacher 2 - Dun dun dunnnn. We've started Hamlet... and I have a love-hate relationship with the man himself, Shakespeare. I did Macbeth for my GCSEs, but it's not nearly as comparable to the A-Level standard because rather than waffling and skimming my way through it, I have to analyse every. single. word. I guess I need to get to grips with Shakespearian language, so if anyone has tips with that please help a girl out.
H I S T O R YTeacher 1 - During lockdown, we started our work on British Empire and back then I thought we were ahead. Turns out, we're the opposite! Had we been in school, we'd be done with Unit 1 and Unit 2
. We've started Unit 2, which is about the role of the Royal Navy during the empire days. This part of the course is a drag, I'm not going to lie, but I need to get through it if I want a good grade!
Teacher 2 - We've been introduced to our coursework, which is around the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings. We have until March to complete it, but there's a lot of reading I need to do! I need to finalise which historians I'm choosing to write about by half term, so hopefully that's done soon.
G O V E R N M E N T & P O L I T I C SNormally I'd have had two teachers covering two different sides. However, we have 3 papers in total and both 1 and 2 were taught last year, for the final year our main teacher will be taking all our lessons. Right now, she's covering our work on socialism, which we were doing during lockdown. She's checking our understanding and will be moving on to Paper 3 content in 2 weeks' time, which will be on Global Politics. Looking forward to it!
I've also had word back about my mocks!! We will be tested during the fortnight before half term, and our grades then combined with our Year 12 track record will produced our predicted grades for UCAS.
English Lit will be testing us on our Rossetti and Hamlet work that we're doing from now to the start of October. I'm kinda glad, because that means any missing gaps I had from Year 12 won't be an issue! History will be testing us on all of Year 12 AND a bit of British Empire (helphelphelphelphelp). I really need to revise for that, since it's a LOT of content. Politics will be testing us on Paper 2 content, which is generally around government/our judicial system. It's mainly basics and I'm glad because I did a lot of revision for it during lockdown, and now it'll come in handy!

I've decided not to go for early entry. I don't really know how to feel about this one since Cambridge has been a dream for a while, but after speaking to teachers and seeing how competitive it is I think it's best if I don't go for it. There's plenty more amazing unis out there and God has a plan at the end of the day, so I shouldn't fret.

As I'm not going for early entry, I've got some more time to revise for my LNAT, meaning it's likely I will do the test around December. This will give me a chance to let the stress of mocks die down and also give me a bit of extra time to prepare.

As some of you may know, last year I applied to be a head of the law society and I got the position! Due to all the COVID rules, Year 12 and 13 can't mix so meetings have been called off. I've been having a look around for online opportunities for people to get involved in.
All in all, I'm glad we're kinda getting back to daily life. My area in London is still high-risk however, and we an on the verge of having a local lockdown, but if everyone weArS thEiR damN maSKS, we can stay this way!
I hope your returns to academic/normal life have been good too, let me know! Also, I'm still checking on all these lovely new GYGs so if I've missed yours by any chance, tag me in!
Love you guys,
