Differences between teacher references for US and UK

I am applying both to undergraduate US and UK colleges and am currently asking for references (recommendation letters) from my teachers. Shall I let them know that there are differences in what each country requires in the letters? I know that American colleges seek more personality oriented references that describe the applicant as an individual. UK colleges need more information on academics and course/subject oriented references.
Is this true? Shall I ask for 2 separate letters from each teacher for the different country systems? Thank you!

Are you applying from the US or from the UK? I just went through the same thing. The letters are quite different, but your teachers should be able to modify letters for each country. If you are a US student, check out Across the Pond. They are a nonprofit that helps US students will questions like this, for free, and they were a lifesaver for me.
