Marketability of Area Studies degree...

Are area studies degrees even marketable? I was thinking about pursuing an MA in an Area Studies at a top school but was wondering about the marketability of this rather expensive degree.

I have heard that consulting firms take individuals with unconventional degrees. Is this true? Would I be better off pursuing this route?

Well, most people doing Area Studies would probably want to be getting into research, so I don't think marketability would be top of their criteria. If you're only doing it to get a job, surely you could just pick another degree?
