Doctor recommended circumcision

I have had phimosis all my life and it has caused me issues in the bedroom with my girlfriend eg pain. So a few months ago I went to the doctors and they prescribed me some steroid cream to try and loosen my foreskin and recommended trying daily stretching. I have done both and whilst the skin has loosened a little it is still not as loose as it should be. I went back to the doctors a few days ago for a check up and they have now referred me to a specialist to have an operation to be circumcised.

I am quite nervous about the thought of this. I have spoken to my girlfriend and we both agree if having the op done improves our sex lives then it is a good thing but I have also read that having it done reduces the sensation when having sex.

Has anyone here had it done? Any help would be appreciated.
