Letter of diagnosis from GP

Student Finance have told me I have less than 28 days to send my proof of diagnosis’s to them so I can get DSA. If anyone here has applied for DSA how did you get the letter from your GP? My GP aren’t cooperating and i’m running out of time.

Did you explain why you need a letter? Expect to pay for it ...

I did, and they always tell me to email them but I never get a response. So I’m not sure what to do now

Do you have any letters that confirm diagnosis or anything on your health records. I just used a letter from my rheumatologist

Do you have access to your health records - to see drs letters because you might be able to find something in there. I only have one letter that confirms diagnosis so you might have to trawl through them all

Do you know how I could get access to that? Sorry my GP really don’t tell me anything😅

You ask your GP to give you full access to you health records.

I don't think its the same for every place but the hospital where I get specialist treatment also has a myhealthrecord login which gives you access to you letters etc. from that hospital specifically.

Can you go in to the surgery and speak to a receptionist?

As someone who works in a GP surgery I would say keep phoning them to chase this. Admin workers are sometimes reluctant to do things quickly and think everything can wait until they’re ready to do it. Some matters are more urgent than others so just keep nagging them or ask to speak to someone like a manager as waiting for something this important is unacceptable but unfortunately happens very often

I’m a receptionist in a GP and you can request either a summary of your notes/medical records or your full medical records from your GP. In the practice I work at patient summaries can be printed when a patient requests it via phone or at reception then and there. But for full medical records the patient needs to fill in a form which then gets passed to the practice manager to process, not sure how long that process is.

I know every GP practice is different but you should be able to get a summary of your records by talking to a receptionist.

I would but the receptionists are so rude😬 Would prefer to call rather than waste travel money & be met with rude receptionists but at this point I have no other choice haha

Yep unfortunately my GP practice are very reluctant to do anything, have emailed them 4 or 5 times and… no response. Called several times too and they either tell me to send another email or book an appointment. Do you think I could book an urgent appointment or is that for more pressing matters?

You could try, although it is mainly secretaries that deal with these queries and im not sure whether doctor would be able to help, although a partner could probably accelerate things, it’s tricky, but getting a print out of all of your medical records is also one of the best options although it will also take some time as it will have to be approved by the people higher up i believe

Have you seen this form?

You could make an appointment and ask them to fill it in?
