How Staffs supported me on my university journey

Hi everyone, Grace here!

I'm coming to the end of my four-year study journey at Staffs, which hasn't just been an educational journey, but a personal one too. I'm autistic and have also had various mental health issues over the years, but one of the main reasons I came back to do a master's was the fact that between my friends, societies and lecturers, I had felt at home here before and missed the vibes of being on campus and making projects for my creative portfolio.

Having a good support network has been key to my motivation and drive as a student, right from first year, through the various Covid-19 lockdowns and now after coming back from a gap year. On the official side, I was able to set up a Learning Support Statement which allows me to have a two-week grace period for assignment deadlines. I also had an academic mentor in my first three years, who helped me develop independent study techniques I still use now.

As well as this, there are so many extracurricular activities that helped me find my people, and the representative networks do some amazing work in making the campus more inclusive.

I have also had some valuable support from my course staff over the years, whether it’s specialist subject advice or general encouragement.

Who motivates you to be the best you can be? Let me know in the thread!
