EPQ (film)

I'm writing about different subcategories of horror and was just wondering how I'd go about talking about 'torture porn' I feel like calling it that would be inelegant especially for a formal project.

How are these films categorised / labelled in the literature? That's what you need to work out. Otherwise, use any iffy terminology in quotes to distance yourself from it and explain why you are using it in the absence of anything better. You should also explain where the term comes from - who coined it?

It's films like Saw and such which focus on excessive gore I believe they may be categorised as splatter films so that might work. Thanks

Great. So if you can track down an academic using it, you can cite that. Sometimes terms like this come from journalists or film critics, a reference to them would also be acceptable.
