Is certificate of participation helpful when applying for universities

What sort of course does it relate to - if its an online MOOC (Future Learn etc) then dont waste your money, as no University will want any 'certificate' as its not a qualification.

Certificates will rarely be worth the paper they're written on.

If it was a relevant activity, then writing critically about the experience in your personal statement will be worthwhile though.
