2:2 in Warwick Economics

So I have Finished 2nd year in Warwick Economics. And it didn't go very well in fact I scaped a 2:2 I got 50,9%, and the weighting is 50/50 between 2nd and 3rd year and I really want to get a 2:1. Now I understand that I would need to get 69.1% in my final year to achieve this I would just like to know how hard this will be?
there is also another cavaet too. According to Warwick:
At the Final Year Exam Board, if a student's mean mark falls below a class boundary, but is within 2.0% points of that boundary, the exam board can promote that student if:
More than 50% of CATS taken across the final 2 years at Warwicklie in the higher class.
So one of my modules lie at a 2:1, would this mean since I do equal CATS both years that if I get a 2:1 in every module in 3rd year I would only need to get an average above 65.1% instead of the 69.1% originally?
Thank You. I know it is my laziness and fault for doing this and getting into this situation and I understand it will be hard but it would be helpful to understand how hard.

its not worth calculating averages for this technicality. the department will bump a 58% average up to a 2.1 if more than 50% of your credits-worth of modules were at least 60%

just focus on doing the best you can. it is not humanly possible to target the bare minimum % whilst also targetting a 50%+ 2.1 classification. pick the right classes for you and study harder

ok will do ofc honestly i barely did any work this year, but I understand how important it is to get a 2 1 so if it means ill have to work each and every day of final year for hours upon hours then ill do it. But would you say it is attainable? with what I've presented to be able to get that 2:1 overall

i spent my entire third year applying for jobs with a 2.1 written on my cv and it never gets checked. by the time i'd graduated my employer didn't even ask for my degree certificate

yes, it's attainable for you, especially if you're capable of the maths-based modules which have a high average grade (incl. RAE)

oh yeah i did my research and picked those modules with the highest averages. I'm just going to go into final year with a fresh head and try my best regardless of my circumstances and see what happens its still in my hands if I work hard enough hopefully.

Hi Anonymous.

A 2:2 in 2nd year leaves you with some work to do. What grade are you aiming for? I know Warwick's standards are increasing every year as demonstrated by their latest entry requirements at the postgrad level. I know a few senior faculty members who currently teach at Warwick. The Econ department is absolutely one of the best places to be to learn the fundamentals. Be as studious as possible and reach out to your lecturers if you feel you need a bit more guidance in understanding important topics on the syllabus.

Take care.

Hi, I am aiming for a 2: 1 ultimately I know what it takes I know Essays are not my best shot and I chose modules that my friends chose because I didn't really know what I was doing. I realistically either need to average a 1st final year or get 2 1s across my modules in final year and get a mid to high 2 1. I know it will be hard and I know it will require many hours in the library and that I'm going to have to work as hard as I can to achieve it I just want to know if I can realistically do it, if it has been done before. or if anyone has ever had a similar experience and done so. i mean I did relatively no work in 2nd year and scraped a 2 2 I know this year I'm going to be working each and every day,

Haha, well. I can only speak for myself. I switched subjects and made it out of my second year with a 2:1, but it was a 2:1 with a few cheeky 1sts to support me. I actually won a prize for outstanding achievement from the Dean of the Business School, Prof. Michael Sherer, which was a World Book Day token that I used as a bookmark in my textbooks. Still use it today.

Was I highly motivated to succeed in my final year? Yes! Was it easy? No, it wasn't. I had to make some tough choices to defend the 1st I achieved in final year. I had a calendar that helped support me in time management. I rigorously and meticulously planned every single thing I did. From spending time in the gym to spending time as a Societies' Guild Rep and VP of the Department's society and a member of 2 other SU societies.

I made sacrifices, time-wise. Because I knew I couldn't socialise like a butterfly as much as I did in 2nd year and especially not 1st year (which I had to repeat because of a small hiccup in an exam), so I deactivated Facebook for that year, which was a big deal, and ghosted until my grades picked up a bit. The essence of the story here is, my third year was like a new experience of University because I was able to focus on self-actualisation with a lot of preparation. My mother visited me once and said that she was surprised to see that my room was so neat and tidy and that all my clothes were ironed and folded in the correct place, which was all down to me planning what I could out and being a faithful person.

So, all I am saying is it's very possible to get a first in 3rd year when you plan ahead and you have a passion for studying the subject you love.

Have a great day Anonymous.
