Admissions advice

Hi what are the chances of an offer from Strathclyde for joint hons Spanish and Education (2024 entry) with higher results in hand of 3 As, a B and a C (A in Spanish) and sitting 3 AHs in Spanish, French and Music in S6?

Thank you

Hi there!

This course is very competitive for entry and often candidates already meet or exceed the entry requirements following S5. We can't ever guarantee that an offer would be made because of how competitive it is. The standard entry requirements we look for are AAAA (first sitting), or AAAAB (second sitting)
with Higher English, Higher Spanish B, Maths/Applications of Mathematics National 5 B-C, or equivalent and many applicants exceed these requirements at the point of application. We receive more applications than we can make offers to every year so it's worth being mindful of this when you apply.

If you meet any of our widening access criteria we may be able to consider you against the minimum entry requirements. For more info and to see if you qualify for this type of offer see here: https://www.strath.ac.uk/studywithus/wideningaccess/

In your Personal Statement you should reference both subject areas you're interested in

Thank you. So frustrating to be one grade off the 4th A. I am hopefully the 3 AH might give a chance for a conditional 🙏🏻
School is South Lanarkshire so a mixed comprehensive, but doesn’t fall into widening participation list. Our postcode before we moved 4 years ago ticked the flag, but our current address doesn’t. Thanks so much for the useful reply Caitlin. I need to decide now whether putting this course would be a wasted option.

You're welcome
I'd say if you are keen to study at Strathclyde then you should apply. Even with the most competitive courses you're better to apply than to not apply at all, and not wonder 'what if' for the rest of the application process. You're not too far away from what the admissions team are asking for, but it's also important to keep the competitive nature of the course in mind. If you apply then at least you'll know you've been considered no matter what, rather than giving yourself 0% chance of being considered at all if that makes sense. It's always a good idea to pick a range of universities with differing entry requirements, so have a few you already meet the conditions for along with a few aspirational choices.

Hope this helps, good luck!
