Getting a reference

After a gap year, who should I contact for a reference for my UCAS form? Would old teachers still write me one this close to the deadline (Jan 31st)?

I contacted my old school about this but havent heard back understandably because of the holidays, are they likely to write me a reference?

Most schools / colleges are very happy to write a reference for those on a gap year.
If you dont hear within a couple of days of the start of term, just give your Sixth Form a call.
