Applying to BioMed/MedSci in University of Edinburgh

Any Advice from anyone would be very helpful !!!!!

I’m a s6 student studying in Scotland, and I want to apply to (Biological Sci/ Biomedical Sci/ Medical Sci) in University of Edinburgh.

Since I want to get in, I’m not sure which one of the course should I choose between (Biomed and MedSci). Because I’m afraid it’s too competitive.

My s5 grades are AACCD,
S6 grades are predicted to have 4As and 1B.

As the entry requirements on the UofE website, both 2 courses are listed to be:
( SQA Highers: AABB by the end of S5 or AAAB by the end of S6. BBB must be achieved in one year of S4-S6. )

1. I was wondering if I am all right to apply to the course with my s6 grades.

2. Will this be a disadvantage or a low chance of getting an unconditional offer by applying with the s6 grades? What would the chance of having an unconditional offer?

3. I’d want to know more about the competition of each course since UofE is my top choice!

Any advice would help! Thanks!

Hey, I applied for biomed at Edinburgh for 2024 and even with having the minimum grades for the entry requirements, i think its quite difficult to get an unconditional offer since its a very competitive course (unless ur like a straight A genius). It will be biomed students applying and med students applying as a backup so there's alot of people ur up against. Although, I spoke to a student who goes to edi for biomed and they said if you really show ur interest for biomed in your personal statement, it will boost your chance of getting in. I got AAABB in higher last year and even with that, my guidance teacher was saying its not guaranteed due to the competitive nature of the course. Also if you are applying now for 2024 entry, they will look at your S5 grades moreso than ur predicted S6 grades since you have actually sat those exams. However since your S6 predicted are higher than the entry requirements, might give you a better chance idk tho. Hope this helps

Thanks for replying to this post!! Really helped me making up my mind.
I was wondering will it be a good idea if I apply to a subject in Biomedical Sci, like Physiology/Pharmacology in Biomed etc. Would there be less applicants comparing to general Biomedical, but at the same time, I think their entry requirements really depends on my personal statement, whether if I am really passionate bout the subject.
