2nd Sitting In Uni requirements meaning?

I hope to get into Strathclyde Uni. In the requirements it says "2nd sitting". What does this mean specifically for Scottish Students as we cannot retake exams. Are these exams that you achieve in S6?

You're best asking Strathclyde this question directly (with a link to where you've seen this phrase).

Hello! Are you applying for entry in 2024? Which course are you applying for and what did you achieve in S5?

Some of our admissions teams split their requirements in to 1st and 2nd sitting. Your 1st sitting is usually your S5 grades (the first time you sit Highers). If you achieve what we've asked for in the 1st sitting then we'd be able to consider you for an unconditional offer. If you don't meet what we're looking for in S5 - the 2nd sitting entry requirements are what we'd look for in total by the end of S6.

Please note that even if you meet the 1st sitting entry requirements - an offer of study isn't guaranteed. Admissions can be very competitive so it's worth bearing that in mind.

Happy to chat to you about your choices if you want to reply here, or drop me a PM if you'd prefer 🙂

What if there is no 1st sitting and 2nd sitting shown? If there is only a single set of requirements is that expected at end of S5, or the total at end S6?

Hiya @LakeD 🙂 If there's no 1st/2nd sitting specifications usually that's what we'd look for altogether by the end of S6. If you let me know what you're interested in and what you've achieved/are working on I'd be happy to provide further guidance! Some courses can be quite competitive, and others may encourage AH study too for example. Happy to go in to more detail so you've got the best advice for your interests!

Thanks for getting back. Am currently doing 4 highers (maths, physics, English and music). At this point English is my weakest (as much stronger in maths) but not yet done prelims. Next year like to do advanced higher maths (as it’s a requirement for the course) and AH mechanics of maths or AH physics, plus any additional higher or maybe resits if needed to get the required grades.

I think it would be helpful to know over the past few years whether the actual offers exceeded the minimum requirements much - as that helps know if I actually need 4As etc. Appreciate that comes down to how competitive the course is year on year.
