uni of reading lgbt/alt/indie culture

so i have an offer for uor, and im wondering what the lgbt/alt/indie culture is like there? at risk of sounding really cringe, i'd struggle to have fun if 90% of the uni is more 'basic' (i've been bullied for it before too so yk), so i'm just wondering what it's like for this there?

As a queer student, I'd say it's great. I'm not in the LGBT soc, but they do put on a lot of events and collab with other societies. Other societies also have big queer presences, without that being the main thing. I'm not sure if there are any alt socs at the moment, and I don't particularly identify as alt myself, but I do see plenty of students around campus who are. I wouldn't know if it's more than 10%, but you might find that some courses are more appealing to certain personalities.

If you want to find other indie lovers, the songwriting soc or other music socs may be for you, if you want to chill with queer and/or neurodivergent folk, the games soc may be your scene.

Hope this helps, if you have any other questions I can try to answer them!

Good evening,

It's great to hear you are considering the University of Reading. I'm sorry you have been treated negatively in the past.

In my personal opinion, I believe the University of Reading is diverse. It has an array of genders, religions, races, ages, and nationalities. The university tries its best to be welcoming to all, and they are great at ensuring everyone is heard. We have a good student union, which is represented by 5 student full time officers. They are old students who know the university well and know how to connect with the students. They hold events throughout the year to help students meet others .this is a great way to meet new people and make new friends.

If you have any questions, please let me know, and I'm so sorry we didn't reply to you sooner, I think your message was somehow missed.

All the best
Ella
