Is it bad to retake a levels for top uni applications?

So I'm not so confident about Chem A levels this year but I really wanna get at least an A and wanna apply to some top unis too. If hopefully not, I do get a bad grade, and decide to retake it next year, would It affect my uni applications to top unis? Say Imperial or UCL or King's?
I’m assuming that you’re planning on taking a gap year next year and applying for 2025/26 entry. Firstly, obviously try to get an A in your exams coming up cos you have a decent amount of time to work up to that.

To answer your question, you need to look up the course on all the ‘top’ uni’s you’re planning to apply to and check if they accept resits. Off the top of my head I believe UCL and King’s accept resits for most courses but you need to look it up yourself.

Many top Unis do not care about resits - Bath and Bristol as examples.
Always check directly with each Uni if you can't find that reassurance on their website
