Is the University of Buckingham Medical Sciences (Pre-Med) CertHE utility

Hi all, I have been considering doing the Uni of Buckingham Pre Med course to increase my chances of landing a place for Medicine at a different UK uni. Can anyone tell me whether it would be actually considered for other UK unis or if it's only useful to get into the Buckingham Med course?

I have the same question although I’m only hoping to get into UoB but I’m not sure if it’s guaranteed even if I get 70%

It's considered by very few universities, and those who do consider it generally still have high A-level requirements. I only know 1person from out original class of 35 who is studying Medicine at a different uni than buckingham with the CertHE, but her A levels also met the standard medicine entry requirement.

Thank you for the reply 🙂
Yes I was wondering if whether taking a gap year and enhancing my application by redoing the ucat and other gap year stuff like getting a job . or doing the buckingham 1 yr foundation course would be more beneficial to get into a mainstream uni which isn’t private (I would struggle to pay the cost of buckinghams medicine course, but the foundation yr isn’t too pricy which is why I was considering it) And honestly based on my research and the feedback given from my peers, college and u I’m leaning more towards taking a gap year. As it’s not necessarily my aim to get into the buckingham medicine course.

Thanks for ur input 🙂

Thank

You would be far better off gaining more experience and perspective through a gap year. Especially since UoB pre med is not clinical based.
I would suggest doing some work as a HCA or similar because it can be very easy to reflect on in many different ways. I used the fact I worked as a HCA on 3/6 stations at my medical school MMI, and have heard unis really like to known that students have exposure to clinical situations so that they know they will not be freaked out by placements etc and end up dropping out.

Thanks for telling me ur opinion. It’s definitely helped as the question I had was kind of specific.
I’ll make my final decision on results day but most likely gonna do the gap yr.

Have a nice day
