i find curling up on a sofa with the lady of your dreams and chatting about everything and nothing whilst you watch trashy TV/a film is the best date for me.

aww.. I wish i could find a bloke that was content with doing things like that! i miss having a boyfriend :frown:

Hmmm
I can think of a really bad date (she was such a cambridge IT girl, moment i saw she was wearing fur trimmed coat and sunglasses on head i groaned inside. all she wanted to do was basically go to the most expensive cocktail place in town and 'socialise' )

River Bar? = ouch, still can't believe that we had our may ball launch there without any drinks offers. The place was dead, such a contrast to the year before at Pure with good offers until 11:30.

Everyone has had a date when you either come back thinking everything is fantastic or you come back and thought, 'omg, could that get any worse?'.

Not me

Argh! I hate spoons! Curry night is ok with friends, but the rest of the time I'm not a fan. Their cocktail jugs are cheapish but that's mostly because they're full of ice and about 4 shots of alcohol. Also was part of my worst date ever. I don't know why he thought it would be a good idea to go there on a Friday night, but there it is. Place was full of 16 year old townies in miniskirts, getting ratted on Blue WKD and being leched on by guys my age who should know better. It was packed, could hardly find anywhere to sit, someone threw up on the carpet just inside the door, two bunches of boys started fighting right near us, and the bouncers started getting really aggressive and throwing out some other drunk guys. I don't like seeing violence at the best of times and I really have issues with bouncers who are just big and using their size as a power trip.

So, yeah, Wetherspoons was horrid, and then we went for the ADC lateshow, which was some modern, student written piece that neither of us understood at all. Lots of shouting about patriarchal dictatorial values or something like that. Not great for a supposedly romantic night, with both of us going "what the **** is this about?"

Best date, I don't know, but for now I think it was when I cooked for the guy at my place, for once it went right, and then we went down to Jazz in the college bar, which is always really cool. Just snuggled up on the sofas watching all this fantastic music, it was lovely. I can't afford to do really expensive stuff, so if it works like that, it's fine by me!

Alaric - I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought that about the ball launch, I was only there for a bit as it was the middle of Bumps but it definitely wasn't as cool as last year's.

So why did you go out with her in the first place?

It was a blind date set up by a friend. tho with hinsight methinks it was their idea of a joke. After all if this girl had been wearing Ugg boots she really would have been wearing every item of fashion clothing i despise.

People always say that going to a movie makes a bad first date but i had a date a few weeks back, and we went to the movies and it went great. We spoke a lil bit throughout the film, then went for a walk later and at least had something to talk about and discuss.

Yeah, spoons is only good for getting ****ed cheaply. They do have guest ales that are reasonable enough (and cheap). I can see why it's totally unsuitable for a date but all the things about Friday on spoons that displease you actually amuse me. That's kinda perverse, because I think it's all **** as well, but it's very human and so somehow reassuringly stable.
I've never had trouble from any bar staff/bouncers/chavs here, back home I used to get much more hassle from chavs but that was perhaps just a size/age difference. So I tend to think of Cam as much nicer .

Maybe my view of last year's was a bit distorted because I came straight from a Queens formal plus bar trip and so was hammered when I arrived, did stay till Pure closed though and remember it as a good night. But yeah, there was a distinct lack of alcohol and subsequently a lack of atmosphere :frown:

I've never personally had any trouble with them (cos I'm a girl, most likely ) but I've seen them get heavy handed with various people entirely unnecessarily (including my college son - remember that article in TCS the other week? That was him). I just don't like them. Don't get much stick from chavs because a)we don't really go out when they're out, and b)I don't stand out much usually. Cambridge is a nice place, just not spoons on a Friday!
