Thanks for the info about the bursary. I'm so nervous... I don't know if I'm going to get it as I've been living abroad... So I need to prove ive been living temporarily... Which I have I guess... But I won't have payslips from the UK.

Does anyone know if there is any point to apply for student finance if I already did a degree and had student loans then? I can't get it again right?

Also is the tuition fees sorted out through the bursary application?

I had interviews mid-january and early feb, final one at Leeds Met this week and haven't heard back from any of the others yet!

On that day applicants must: have been ordinarily resident in the United Kingdom, the Channel Islands or
the Isle of Man during the three years preceding the prescribed date, apart
from occasional or temporary absences; and
 be ordinarily resident in England, Scotland , Wales or Northern Ireland on the
prescribed date (other than medical and dental students who must be
ordinarily resident in England.); and
 be settled in the UK within the meaning of the Immigration Act 1971. This
means that there must be no restrictions on your length of stay in the UK.n

From what I know SLT is a professional qualification so you would be entiteled to another loan.. Not 100% sure though
I'm im the same situation (already have a degree in psychology) I think we're entitled to a means tested bursary and reduced rate maintenance loan

Temporary doesn't mean less than three months. Just as long as you can prove that you had a temporary contract, or were travelling or something.

My problem is my offer is conditional on me getting the bursary. But in reality I would find it very difficult to live without it. The bursary will cover my rent with some extra, then I'll need to work for cash to eat, socialise etc.

For example, I should be able to prove I lived abroad temporarily, because I have a temporary contract. I also pay bills in the UK and have family connections. I can prove regular flights home for example.

I guess the thing if you were travelling is you were still officially resident in the UK. But at the moment for example I am a UK citizen, but I am resident in Norway.

Hopefully we'll be fine though. I think if you are a UK national you pretty much get it. It's just designed to stop people moving from another country to get cheap education and then go back to their own country I suppose... So the NHS won't recieve their investment so to speak!

I wouldn't worry about the loan. I still pay off mine too. I wish I hadn't paid so much off, because in reality I won't pay it by the time I'm 60 anyway. It gets wiped wither after your sixty, or after 30 years. Whatever comes first.

Ok, thanks for this actually It makes me feel better, I thought I definitely wouldn't get anything.
I am a UK citizen but lived abroad the past three years, first on a temporary work contract but was resident in that country, then working freelance but again resident in that country, then I moved countries and had another temporary contract and did not register as resident in that country, so was technically resident in the UK. I am now resident and employed in the UK paying NI and tax etc but only since 6 months.
In those three years I wasn't paying rent or anything or NI in the UK and flew back only once a year or so, but maybe it will be ok. I'll check at my interview. Thanks!

Yeah, it is. I'm applying with an access course and MMU actually has the highest entry requirements, out of the unis I have applied to anyway.

I see, so can you practise as a psychologist as well as a speech therapist? Or would psychology be your specialism as a speech therapist? Sounds like lots of work! You'll be mega employable by the end though!

Does anyone know what I have to take for the Leeds interview? 😊

Hey Amy, i'm just about hanging in there. Only 13 days until I hear from the University of Manchester! Not that I'm counting haha. I don't think I'll hear from leeds or man met until after that date unfortunately. I think leeds will start giving out replies mid-end March. I'm still researching alternative routes and careers so I don't fall into a deep state of depression when I get rejected haha

Oh gosh I remember the UofM decision day last year - all hanging around on here and on Track till the replies started coming in well into the evening- nightmare wasn't it?

Leeds didn't hang around last year - operated more like MMU some offers quickly and others on the maybe pile (or in my case a quick rejection lol). We will have to see if they change their approach this year.

Oh yes I remember that night well, I even remember where I was sitting. This year I've made plans for Monday night to keep myself busy. The things we have to go through hey!

By the sounds of it leeds must have changed their process because nobody has received decisions from them yet and is been 2 weeks since the first interviews. Maybe towards the end of this week people will hear. I may aswell withdraw my choice as I already know I didn't get in. I will be in shock if I do haha

Oh don't you dare withdraw!! Just wait and see or you will always wonder "what if". I felt the same last year about Sheffield - they messed around so much that I nearly didn't bother going to the interview but my mum said I should go - and she was right cos I hated it so know I wouldn't have liked it there but at least in my own mind I can't ever wonder what it might have been like.
