The Student Room Group

I am 19 years old and I still don't know the alphabet (AMA)

I genuinely don't know the alphabet.

I remember day dreaming in nursery when all the other kids were learning it, along with nursery rhymes...that I also never knew the words to (even as a child). My mum tried very hard at home but I was never focused.

Oh dear... This is actually pretty tragic.

You need to learn it.

Don't know all my times tables off my heart

I'd like to ask you how you can possibly not know it?!

You mean you don't know the order of the alphabet or you literally don't know any letter of the alphabet? Because you've used about 20 of them in your thread lol.

The order of the alphabet is irrelevant anyway.

Shouldn't matter too much. In a few years time we'll be updating it so the order is the same as how it appears on Qwerty keyboards to make it easier to teach toddlers computer skills.

Umm...

Have you ever considered as a (young) adult sitting in front of kids' TV and learning the alphabet? Seems like an important skill that may come in useful some day...

You've used pretty much all of them in your post...
It's ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ.

It's very easy to learn an alphabet. Just takes a few hours of practice. I learned Russian years ago (only the pronunciation of letters not their names) and pretty sure I still remember it. You naturally go over in in your head every week or so after you've learned it.

aa, buh, vuh, guh, duh, yeh, yo, zje, zuh, ee, e, kuh, luh, muh, nuh, o, puh, ruh, suh, tuh, oo, fuh, huh, tse, chuh, shuh, shsh, silent sound, i, silent sound, eh, yoo, ya
