Why is it fine to promote obesity but not smoking?

Politicians and the media are always trying to normalise obesity and make criticising it be seen as sexism. The mayor of London wants to ban adverts like the "beach body ready" advert, which show people with healthy bodies because fat people can't deal with their feelings being hurt. However you never hear anyone talk about banning plus size models, despite them obviously being very unhealthy. Arguably since there are far more obese people than underweight people, "plus size" models are far more dangerous to the populations health since they make obesity seem desirable or attractive.

But the fact is obesity has been shown to increase chances of heart disease, diabetes and a whole other range of diseases. You wouldn't be able to promote smoking because of a similar link between smoking and diseases so why is it ok to do it with obesity?

Oh and before anyone says they're obese because of their "genetics" please explain why there weren't many obese people in WW2 europe?

From a purely economic perspective:

If I smoke, you may inhale the carcinogens I breathe in too (second-hand smoking). If I get cancer, I take up space in the NHS. I may stereotype myself by saying I smell bad

If I am obese, I pay for food and eat it. Me being fat doesn't affect you unless it's aesthetically unsettling. I may put a strain on the NHS too.

The idea is obesity is easier to correct because it's not addictive, cigarettes are something that may never be given up in a lifetime.

Nobody promotes obesity apart from body shaming movements, and it's these same movements that instil the idea of all men being Adonis-like muscly men.

In other words, society is ****ed.
Um how is obesity promoted? A lot of plus size models are a size 12. how is that so unhealthy? As a fit person, people need to mind their own business and stop trying to pretend they care about health when it is all about looks.

Iskra Lawrence is banging. If she's what you'd call fat, then call me a chubby-chaser.

She thick and got a slim face

Takes skills
Easy for NHS to basically say, we're stopping all non urgent treatments, especially obesity related. but then "the people" won't like it.
Education is needed on all this. Generations of it.
It's not fine to promote obesity and those who do are harmful ideologues.
Any sources to substantiate the claim that obesity is somehow promoted?

I think OP meant in terms of how it's not unfavourable to be "plus-sized" but the definition of "plus-sized" is somewhat ambiguous and so people who are scientifically classified as obese can be part of an acceptable norm

The point though is she's considered to be a "plus-sized" model, and no man in his right mind would consider her to be obese or unattractive. Most mainstream plus size models are just women with curvier builds. Not unhealthy in the slightest.

Yeah I agree with that

Can't say the same for that Tess Holiday girl.

She is morbidly obese yet promotes herself on having a great body and being healthy. Deluded.

You could make a fortune by starting a company that promises to help people to lose weight by telling them how easy it is.

You could also solve mental illness by telling people to snap out of it and cancer patients to man up.
It is beyond ridiculous how the liberal left go berserk at the slightest criticism of obesity. It is a potentially fatal health condition but the lefties see nothing wrong with it whatsoever.

They no more show people with healthy bodies than porn shows men with normal-sized penises.

For a start, ads like this are generally heavily edited to the point where they often don't given an entirely accurate portrayal even of the model being photographed.

Secondly, models generally aren't chosen because their bodies or looks are typical - quite the opposite. A weight or waist measurement that might be healthy for a particular model (which is itself not common - most models are below a healthy weight) is likely to be unhealthy for many if not most people.
Obesity and smoking are equally as bad, I don't understand why they both aren't under the same am-mount of criticism

it is genetics. WWII Europe is a curious example, since people on both Allied/Axis sides didn't have much food. There also wasn't much processed food like there is today.

The causes of obesity are complex, but then genetics is one factor.
I agree completely. This is the left's equivalent of climate change denial. The amount of pseudo science I've heard which tries to justify obesity is astounding. "Fat doesn't mean unhealthy" they say. Yeah, if that's true then white supremacist doesn't mean racist. I think we should introduce a fat tax. Obese people are, with their lifestyle choices, endangering the survival of the NHS. It's time they pay up or thin up.

You've literally just undermined the genetics argument right there.

These two articles basically undermine the idea genetics or a slow metabolism is stopping you lose weight. It is literally just calories in vs calories out unless you happen to be able to deny the laws of thermodynamics in which case you should donate your body to science.

people metabolise food differently. that's just basic physiology.
