Are you sure you won't be covering biochemistry in the other degree? Biochem, molecular biology and genetics are all related to each other - they describe the relationship between genes, proteins and their functions. It's unlikely that you won't cover all these topics.

I studied Pharmacology at university, and similarly, I wasn't able to specialise until 2nd year. I hated biochem and some of the other subjects, but you power through them. It's very important for you to have these foundations, as the rest of your degree builds upon them. I hoped I wouldn't be doing much genetics after the first year but found that I was thoroughly enjoying pharmacogenetics (study of genetic differences in drug metabolism pathways) by third year, a subject I wouldn't have understood if not for the foundations solidified in first/second year. I would stick it out for a little longer, you may end up liking it!

It is possible. Have you tried looking at what uni/course you would transfer to? Once you have identified this, you need to get into contact to see whether they would let you transfer and if they have any space available on their course.

If you look at the modules for Newcastle uni compared to Leeds, Newcastle contains a lot more chemistry. I understand there's some chemistry but right now I'm not studying what I want, I'm studying biochemistry and biomedicine which I don't want to do.

You can advertise your contract and get someone to replace you. You could post on student Facebook groups for your uni, or is there some kind of portal you could advertise on?

You're at Newcastle? I literally just completed my pharmacology degree there, and honestly, after you've finished the biochemistry module you hardly touch chemistry again. Even though I completed pharmacology (which is supposed to be chem based) that is pretty much the only chemistry I did. I know it's boring completing modules from other people's courses but it goes really quickly.

What accom are you at? If you're in Leazes you'll get your contract taken up quite easily

Hmm I know it makes sense to try it out and stick with it but then I loose the chance to transfer to another uni if I still hate it and will also waste a years payment. I've just got a gut instinct Newcastle isn't right for me.
