Acne is getting worse and now I am starting to lose trust in my doctor?

I have been applying Benzoyl Peroxide 5% every night for 8 weeks and I just look the same if not worse.

Today for the first time I saw my nose full of blackheads which I have never had before.

My GP told me to just wash with water and apply BP per night. I also put moisturiser on during the day to prevent ant damage to my skin. Should I be doing extra things?!!! Like cleansing, exfoliating etc?

My acne is mild
Generally you should exfoliate 2-3 times a week and cleanse before putting makeup on and after taking it off. However if your GP has said not to due to side effects of the benzoyl peroxide then follow their instructions. I used to use benzoyl peroxide and if I'm completely honest it didn't do anything for me. I then used another prescribed cream (can't remember the name) and that didn't make a huge impact either. I took lymecycline and that initially helped but long term didn't do anything. I had mild acne as well and the thing that completely cleared it was isotretinoin (also known as accutane/roaccutane). It wasn't an easy medication but it completely got rid of my spots. Generally you have to have tried other creams/medications before you can go on isotretinoin and as your acne is mild you'd probably had to get the medication through a private dermatologist like I did. I think they only prescribe it on the NHS for severe cases. That being said stick at your cream as you never know it might end up working! If not go back to the GP and they might be able to find something more suitable for you.

Hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions!

Might be worth going over to Skincare Addictions subreddit. Or asking to see a derm.

Gotten ignored on the r/skincare and r/acne subreddits. I might follow the routine one of those has for acne.

I hope you figure it out. Tip though, you might react better to a BHA over BP, so it might be worth finding a BHA exfoliant. You just can't use both at the same time.

I think you have to persevere with the tablets to get results i havn't been able to get a doc appointment so I havn't had mine for about a week and a half and its got a lot worse, its as much preventing as it is reversing I'm trying to get something stronger but its hard to be prescribed the most powerful ones as i've heard they have psycological effects, speak to your doctor about your concerns before you get prescribed more
It might be the moisturiser which is irritating your skin. I would DEFINITELY recommend coconut oil (frozen type) it worked like magic for me. Apply it at night for a few nights and see how it goes? would love to hear feedback tbh

Right now I am using Benzoyl Peroxide cream I think I am going to be more generous with how much I use
Many people don't react to Benzoyl Peroxide - I used to have pretty bad acne as a teen and, like you, if anything it just irritated my skin and made it look worse. It does work for some people though, hence why doctors have people trying it. If you go back to the doc's and tell them it's not working, they'll most likely refer you to a specialist who'll probably prescribe you accutane. Very powerful drug and works for must, but the side effects are horrific if you take too much of the stuff. There's generally no need to take more than 30mg a day.
