RAF Qualifications Trouble

Hi,

I recently applied to join the RAF as a WSOP and after waiting 6 weeks to be processed to an AFCO, i was contacted to update my application in regards to my Maths GCSE grade.

In school, i only managed to get a D in Maths at GCSE which i know is below the required grade to join in this role. That being said, im 29 now and have since completed a Bachelors Degree with a 2:1 that i was able to join after studying a Foundation Joint Honours at the University of Derby as seen here: https://www.derby.ac.uk/undergraduate/access-courses/foundation-joint-honours/

After informing my recruiter that i achieved a D in GCSE but have acquired the equivalent of a GCSE C in Maths through my other qualifications, my application was withdrawn. Obviously this was massively disheartening for me as i'd waited 6 weeks and have been training for even longer.

After finding out my application was withdrawn, i was unable to respond to the recruiter to further explain my situation so i contacted the recruiting team using the Live Chat on the website. I asked the recruiter whether this qualification would qualify as an alternative but received the answer "it is a completely different qualification."

I'm really confused as to whether or not my qualifications are enough to get me into this position as i was under the assumption that they would. I have even contacted my Uni about this and have recieved a transcript which says states that either 3/5 GCSE's at Grade C including Maths OR a Foundation Degree is required to join the Bachelors Degree that i completed.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could help, i understand my situation is very specific to me but someone may have had a similiar thing happen to them.

I originally applied as ATC SNCO, and have 4 GCSEs and was informed on live chat that my grades from college would be equivalent to 4 GCSEs therefore I met the minimum of 5 for the role.

Later on, AFTER doing the CBAT and listing my GCSEs in my application which was initially accepted, I went to do my filter interview to be told no qualifications are equivalent to the minimum standard.

Was a mistake on the RAFs end which they apologised for, but I also take credit as I should of contacted the AFCO directly in regards to it before applying. I went ahead and changed my role, did my AST & interview, now waiting for my medical in a few weeks.

You have a few options, either do the GCSE you need and pass it or join with a different role, although most jobs require a minimum of English and Maths at Grade C.

I never got to the CBAT, my application was withdrawn based on not having a GCSE in Maths after waiting 6 weeks. My equivalents were not even considered.

It's not that i don't have the qualifications; i've checked on the website BEFORE applying to make sure my qualifications can be accepted in leiu of not having a GCSE in Maths in which a Foundation Degree is accepted.

Yeah following to what I said, I was told by my AFCO that the GCSE requirements have to be the GCSE quals and cannot be equivalent, which includes degrees, A levels, anything.

Although I would contact your AFCO if I was you to confirm, as this is what I was informed, you might be told or given a different option as all cases are unique.
