Not sure whether this is some kind of sarcasm or not. Either way its not really appreciated? I have to make a decision soon and you aren't helping.

You can't work out that she used sarcasm and you are actually contemplating going to Aberystwyth University? What an Epic waste of teaching time and taxpayers money.

I think the use of sarcasm was very evident to be honest, but what do I know, I'm just a weirdo looking forward to being an introverted welly wearing freak with no fashion sense and no understanding of what music is. Roll on Aber 2011

I also love the fact you said 'Aber matches your credentials' when it clearly doesn't as you couldn't work out that Æbbie was using sarcasm, so for that reason I'm out (in my sexy new wellies  ).

Im going to Aberystwyth.

The place is like heaven.

More girls than guys

Loads of pubs which means more socialising - pubs are better than clubs for getting to know people

Good university reputation

The majority of the students come from all over and are not from Aber themselves

Its by a beach

Its in Wales so there is clearly sheep on demand

People will socialise more doing simple things to keep themselves entertained

Good scenery - whats better than watching women pass by with a beautiful landscape in the background?

Next to a massive library so I can have books on demand

Not far from Ireland so can shoot rockets across on Bonfire Night

Good area for walking, hiking, trekking and for keeping fit

Cheap compared to student life in a city - meaning you have may have a little over at the end of each year to carry into the next year

Everyone is usually from someone else so lumped in one area to start so in the same boat of having to meet people

I will be there hopefully in 2011 which will make it better hopefully lol

well i got an unconditional, so...yeah.

i realise my earlier comment sounded very shallow. what i meant was, some of my friends have been lucky and ended up in halls with a bunch of people who were fun, enjoyed going out and drinking and that kind of thing. but others had a miserable year where no-one went out, or liked shopping or whatever. yes, it sounds shallow but deal with it.

i like the area, and the uni and the course, but if the people are ****, i've also got offers from reading and royal holloway. so i was just asking to check before i visited. sorry for offending any sheep shaggers who responded oh so quickly with sarcasm instead of helpful comments.

If I remember rightly, Reading's like 8th best in the world for agriculture, so there's probably some farmy types there :holmes:

Spoiler

Being serious, there will be people you like and people you don't wherever you go; if you don't fancy going out with the people you live with you'll be able to find some likeminded people across the street, or wherever.

If you like Royal Holloway or Reading better, then that's a good reason to base your uni choice on. Being scared that Wales is full of farmers isn't, really. You've said you like the area, uni and course, if I'm honest I'm sure you'll find friends you like too. Your decision though. Good luck.

I just went on some review site for Aberystwyth, and apparently the girl to guy ratio is high and the guys are all farmers who look like gandalf, so most girls have to settle. considering my first choice is royal holloway which was voted hottest uni by fhm, its not really a vote of confidence...lmao

The girl to guy ratio is actually 49/51.

I take offence to the girl who puts me in the category of a Gandalf-looking farmer!

It is useful to consider that many review sites allow ANYONE to publish their comments, such as a few disgruntled students who have not enjoyed their time here, even Marketing departments from other universites trying to put prospective student off.

Visit Aberystwyth and see for yourself?
Ok i'm a fresher at aber and as far as i am conserned no one cares where you are from ( apart from England when its the England via Wales rugby :P ) I'm from North West England but i've got mates from Scotland, Cardiff, London, Midlands hey even France and Bumudia. I would quit worrying you will find a group of people you will like here its so friendly ( much more friendly than city uni's i've been to but my opinion).

Sure in every group of people there are people who care about their aperiance and there are thoughs who don't, same here. I've met no farmers so far :P. Only down side is the lack of clothes shops in aber a few but not so many as the citys. Though thats where the internet comes in handy or city shopping spree.

The above comments are right though, you have to visit a place to see if you like it. Presuming you are on a 3yr course you'll have to spend three years in the uni you choose. Visit it doesn't harm to look

p.s. Don't judge me by my spelling mistakes, you can prob tell I dont study english here :P

It also depends on what course you are on. If you are going to do Comp Sci, like myself, you'll find the guy:girl ratio is more 95:5. :P

But are the students there mainly welly wearing country people?

You should go out and have a look.

It sounds like you've only seen the countryside on TV :pinch:

There are more girls than boys in university in general, in the USA they're worried it's going to reach 70% girls.

Being a male, I don't see that as something to get worried about to be honest. Hopefully, it'll get to 80% girls, 20% boys.

That would mean 4 girls to every boy

I think we should start protesting

What do we want?

More Girls in UNI

When do we want it?

NOW !

I'd imagine much like actual PEOPLE. Some nice, some nasty, some cute, some not-so-cute, some friendly, some snobby, some clever, some thick. It isn't that hard to get your head around!
