don't want to wear scarf anymore

i don't want to wear headscarf anymore. i put on scarf first because i had a few white hair and didn't want anyone to find out that i have white hair. after 3 years, i take off my scarf because i didn't want to wear it anymore and thought i wore it myself first and can take off easily. i took it off when i went to sixth form college and my dad got very angry at me so i put it back on:eek: . he didn't shout at me but his facial expressions were conveying the message of his angriness. once, i went to bank with my dad to open my account and my hair was open. my dad said "you look very ugly without scarf" which just nearly killed me. i couldn't stop myself crying and cried a lot because it was the first time he said something like that to me.:frown: when i shared with my mom, she also shouted at me back and said 'i am muslim girl and should wear it'. non of dad's sister' daughters wear scarf and they are much older than me as i am only 17 and they are 29,25, 21.
in addition, my mom and dad really used to respect me but after the issue of scarf, i don't talk to my dad as i used to before and neither he do:frown:
i don't know what shall i do? i will be going to university next year and afraid if i try to take it off again, i don't know what my dad would do to me.
please give me advice on what should i do. whatever i'm doing is right or wong
any advice would be very appreciated:smile:

I assume Sidra, you cant. Its forbiden in Islam, this life is a test and for Allah you cant even do that. Im 12 and I wear a scarf everywhere.

There are ways of wearing a hijab other than wearing it around your head? Oh please do enlighten me.

@OP: It seems to me that you don't agree with the reasoning behind the hijab. It's not meant to be forced on women to wear them but it's meant to be worn out of their own choice so in all honesty your parents don't have a right to force you to wear it.

I think you're just wearing it without knowing the reasoning behind the Hijab. Research it .

hijab and headscarf are two diff things bro.

How so? Surely in this context the OP is referring to the hijab?

"Say to the believing men that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty:
That will make for greater purity for them:
And Allah is well acquainted with all that they do.
And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty;"

Modesty is very subjective, wearing a hijab doesn't make a person a Muslim, it is how they act and how their overall dress sense.

this is a very sensitive issue
personally i think its not right to wear it if u are being forced to wear it cos it then eliminates the real reason behind wearing it
at op do what you think and feel is right
This thread is so stupid.
Stop wearing your scarf.Your dad will be mad for 1-2 days then he will get over it.

Pretty bad examples tbh, the OP won't be able to wear it in the same style as the women in most of those pictures since their hairs are visible. But that wasn't the point I was making. The OP seems to have a problem with the hijab in general not the particular 'style' of her hijab. Besides, you didn't show how the hijab can be worn 'in different ways', they're just styles. I think you and the person I quoted need to work on your wording.
(edited 13 years ago)
Wearing a headscarf is not a religious issue, it's a cultural one. If you don't want to wear it, that's your choice. Surely it's more important that you believe in your god and follow the Quran. And i'm pretty sure that nowhere in the Quran does it say that a woman must cover her hair. I'm not Muslim, but I grew up in the middle east, and that's what I was always told.
Also, I'm sure that you are no less pretty either with or without the headscarf. Your parents are probably only stating their knee-jerk responses, and not really thinking about what they are saying.

Your father sounds like a bastard, to be honest. Don't let anyone dictate how you do and do not live your life, you are an adult now and free to do as you please.
