Ermmm nothing like a beetle actualy. The 911's had a flat 6 boxer engine, the drivetrain was completly different, as was the floorplan. The 911 had basicly no link what so ever to the beetle. It was the 356 before the 911 that was very much based on the beetle.

'same **** different number plates? - The 911 was designed to be luxury high performance coupe, where as the beetle was designed to be a peoples car, available to the masses and able to transport 2 adults, three children comfortably at 62mph.

Rant over.

Mate of mine had a split rear screen jobby. Absolute bucket when he got it.

When he finished it was perfect, all original outside. Can't remember what engine he finally kept (there were a few) but I think it was a 2l redtop, sounded like the ****ing ascention was coming, absolutely beautiful machine.

While it's nice to have the original aircooled vw goodness, my god that thing went like **** off a shovel.

Haven't seen the guy since, jesus, last christmas eve I guess? Haven't got any pictures of it unfortunately, wish I did, it'd make a lovely bit of car porn for the desktop.

He got it from a dubber up in manchester funnily enough

They both share the same DNA and therefore don't feel a million miles apart to drive - i.e crap.
My dad drove one over the Australian bush for three hours straight. Air cooled.. It went boom!

They don't share the same DNA at all though thats what I was trying to say haha

and you are missing the point big time, when did I ever say beetles drove well, it was designed in the 1930's of course its going to drive like an old car even though the beetle was well advanced compared to British cars of the same price at the time e.g. synchromesh on ALL gears on all models. The point of owning a beetle is not due to the way it drives, Im not even going to get into this discussion actualy.

I might be doing something mad. I got talking to an old guy who lives down the road from me who has a 1974 Jeans Beetle, he's had it stored in his garage for 6 years but has taken it out every week and started it even though it hasn't been on the road, it runs as sweet as a sewing machine. He's thinking of selling it and has given me first refusal. Can I justify buying another bug, I think I might be able to
I've got a friend who has a new beetle.

Take a walk of shame
like IntelligenceArtifi, i know of somebody with a 'new' beetle - hers is the rsi version though. how much she had paid for it does not sit comfortably with me, but hey, shouldn't be something for me to concern myself with any way O.O''
