I want to be a plastic surgeon.. what course shall I do?

as above. Medicine is obviously very hard to get into and isn't in clearing. Can i do a healthcare related course then branch into plastic surgery somehow?

I would have thought medicine to be a prerequisite.

It doesn't sound like you've done any research here...

There's absolutely no way you will become a surgeon without doing at least a bachelors in Medicine. Surgery is about as advanced as it gets, so you can't expect a surgeon to have lower qualifications than a doctor or a consultant.
Medicine is the only course that will allow you to become a surgeon of any variety.

I think theres a BTEC for that

you don't need qualifications, just learn on the job...

JOKE

OP, you need a bachelors in medicine at the very minimum. Then you would have to go through 2 years surgical training. It's a long long path, but worthwhile if you make it to the end.

Some medical schools are in adjustment each year. You need to call them directly on the day to see if they have spaces.

No, you cant get into surgery any other way than studying medicine. You can do a heathcare course then postgrad medicine, or take a gap year and apply again like a lot of people do.

In the rare case there is space, they'd offer a place to an applicant who narrowly missed out post interview and hadn't got any offers but still got the grades.

I don't know if OP was a medical applicant or not though :K:

That's for unis that have a waiting list. Ive been through adjustment and Kings and Plymouth uni were in it. You could apply even if you hadn't before.

For medicine?
You need to do a Medicine degree.
You have to study medicine to become a plastic surgeon. The course lasts 5 or 6 years depending on which uni you go to. Then you have two years of foundation training where you are a junior doctor and rotate in different specialties. Then you specialise in surgery and then you further specialise into plastic surgery - I think specialisation can take up to 10 years! So a very long path ahead

This isn't the 17th century - you can't be a barber and a part time dentist/surgeon. You need to go to med school then undertake specialty training in plastic surgery.

Medicine

Surgery is super competitive once you get into med and plastic is even more.

I wish it was though, that'd be so ****ing cool
It's pretty obvious that you need to complete a course in medicine first, before undertaking many long years of specialist training.

It's quite a long, competitive and difficult path i'm afraid...

Yeah you can do a foundation course in Art then specialise in Plastic Surgery...

No. You have to study medicine. Pretty obvious.
