I didn't turn up to work today, now what?

Hiya,

I work at NEXT Retail and I didn't turn up to work this afternoon/evening because I was found unconcious in my bathroom at home. Luckily, my partner came back from work early so the situation was resolved. What happened was I lost too much blood, which left me a bit lifeless lol

I've only just got out of bed and no one is answering at my work for me to tell them the situation.. Even so, I don't know what to tell them! They don't really appreciate my condition because doctors cannot find out what is wrong with me (I vomit litres of blood a day and I bruise). This of course makes me very anameic too so juggling home life, college and work is quite a full on thing. I'm 17 and cannot afford to lose this job :frown: I live with my partner and I pay for the domestic up-keep partly too, so I need my job. I am frightened they will give me the sack because of this 'no call/no show' situation.

The hospitals and specialists are doing all they can to find a cause but so far it is a complete medical mystery. I've had countless testing a procedures, repeated many times. The only thing that comes up is extreme anaemia from all the dreadful blood loss. This is of course effecting my daily life and it gets very depressing, but such is life. All I want is to not lose my job, I'm literally struggling so terribly financially!

It's not like something like this hasn't happened before either. About three times now I've not showed for work for up to five days without a single call or notice, the only thing in my favour there was that I had a hospital letter and evidential proof.
You might want to know more about your condition yourself if that's the case
Explain what happened and get a doctors note and you should be ok. Try to avoid that in the future though... probably worth a chat with your boss about the general situation.
My boss knows about the situation, however, she is quite the type to have no empathy. When it comes down to it, I partly understand how hard she finds it because obviously she doesn't know what to document to the company/whoever deals with abscences, because I have no real diagnosis. I cannot prevent these things from happening and it is uncontrollable. Twice now I've vomited pure red fresh blood in front of customers.. But there is nothing I can do. I need this job as financially I wouldn't have a pot to piiss in without it.
