TOR-Why the hell am I in trouble?

One of my friends recently downloaded TOR on my computer. We soon looked at a few links on the deep web, which were actually just political forums. I know all too well about the risks associated with the deep web and the issues with it. A few days later the police called my school and informed them of something. My mother is having a meeting in school tomorrow. We did not do any illegal things? Why am I in trouble?

(Do not take this as legal advice)

If you didn't do anything illegal, then you have literally nothing to worry about.
The use of Tor is not illegal - it depends entirely on what your activity is really.
Yes, but then why did the police notify my school? I don't think its criminal but can they just notify my school JUST because I downloaded TOR?
When you say "my computer", do you mean "a computer that I'm using/a school's computer" or actually "my computer"?

Edit: Or how the **** would they (the school) know you've downloaded Tor on your computer?
Maybe they thought you were buying drugs, guns, downloading child porn or hiring hitmen. You've done nothing wrong right? So don't worry. Maybe it's something unrelated, like you're a key witness in a murder trial.

Very valid point! I assume he missed out that small detail.. :u:
No offence, adding onto what I previously said, but you're an idiot for downloading a program, and that program, on a school computer (if that's what you done.)
You could've just done a flash game...

They would've got pissed off alone by any program (schools are like that.)

G2g, add on later.
It was the police who called my school. It was my computer. But what I am asking is why would this be of importance? Is it soley to protect my internet safety?

could be to liaise with school? as in to see if they have any concerns about your behaviour etc which could lead them to think you're using it for things you shouldn't
Because every day this country moves closer to a totalitarian state.

Regardless, if it's your computer you've got nothing to worry about. As I said before the use of Tor is completely legal - just as long as no illegal activity is taking place - judging from what you've said it doesn't seem that any activity of the sort has.
LOL at going to the effort of downloading TOR only to use the "dark web" to visit "political forums".

Policeman:
'Were you trying to buy hardcore drugs?'
You (crying):
'No, sir, I just wanted to talk about Cameron'

LOL at downloading TOR in general. :top:
What website was it? What sort of politics?

I don't see why you are being targeted, at the same time, there are quite a lot of neo-Nazi and Islamist websites on the deepweb

I didn't say OP was going to be in trouble, just that the police may have contacted the school as downloading TOR alongside a pattern of extremist or violent views/history of drug use would be a concern and the school are the most likely people to know if there are pre-existing concerns/keep a watchful eye over OP to make sure they stay safe
How is this even possible? I thought the whole point of Tor is that it hides your traffic and surely they can't start asking questions simply for downloading Tor since there's nothing illegal about that? Also, how would they be able to access OP's browsing history without having a reason for suspicion in the first place? And anyway, how would they know it's OP? I'm assuming they're living in a house with other people, how would they know it's them and not someone else using the same IP? And why would they have gone to the trouble of tracking OP down, finding out what school they go to and contacting them instead? Confused.

I wasn't really responding to you if I'm honest, merely adding to my point and contributing further.

I smell a bit of a rat also.
The thing is though, we did access some sites with drugs/guns on them. But as long as you do not buy it you should be fine.
Also how the hell did they track... It makes so little sense...
Also the political sites were just normal forums. And even if it was "Neo-Nazi" since when does a one time look at a fascist forum constitute the grounds for wider consequences.

Actually that's more likely then you think. When I was on omegle later trolling people (because that's what I love doing), I actually spoke to a weird, weird freaky guy who thought I was a child ( I look like one). I'm 16 actually. But maybe I might be a key witness in putting this weird guy to jail.
