I plan on handing in my notice this weekend, i work in retail, and usually it's only me and my line manager on shop floor as it's a very small shop. My question is, do i hand in my notice at the start or the end of my shift? i don't want to just drop it on her at the very start of my shift (early morning) but i don't want to work with her all day then only tell her at the very end either. (just to clarify i will be working my notice period and don't just plan on walking out )

You can do either, but it is fine to do it at the end of the day. If you are going to work your notice (as you should) then you will have to work with her when she knows you are leaving. If you explain it's for some constructive reason, she'll be fine about it, it happens all the time in the workplace.

In terms of presentation, handing it in at the end of the day tends to look more as though you considered things longer on that day, and are still decided on leaving.
