Surrey just changed their entry requirements... OVERNIGHT

So Chemical Engineering used to be AAB, now is ABB. Why the hell has this happened?

Maybe they received less than expected applications so want to invite more people to apply before the deadline in January.

That’s my theory - probably wrong.

I'm kind of in shock lol... I was applying got BEng, but now MEng entry req's are lower so I apply for that or keep BEng!??!

oh god they must have seen that TSR thread about why shouldn't do chemical engineering at uni! O_O
But isn't lower requirements a good thing...i mean it's easier to get in. (Does kinda make the uni look a bit trashier though >_< personal opinion)
good.

Yeah it does. I think it's kind of weird... I suppose it's a good thing?

@trapking probably knows more about engineering at Surrey so I’ll tag him. Doubt Surrey is trash.

Lol no. If a uni is changing its requirements in the middle of the application window it means its desperate and there are better unis for the course.

If you have the grades now for the MEng it might be worth applying for that instead (if it's what you really want to do)...you can always transfer from MEng to BEng if you don't like it.

Yeah I literally just changed it to the MEng course instead of the BEng.

Wow really? Loughborough/Bath are meant to be the good Engineering non-RG uni's and they've kept their high entry req's. So you think surrey is doing crappy?

@SGHD26716 thx for tagging.

Stay away from TSR tbh it's full of these oxbridge idiots (most of whom are not even at university yet).

Surrey is a top university. What people seem to forget is that entry requirements do not reflect course difficulty AT ALL. It's about supply and demand, universities are ultimately a business they want students to go to them because it means more £££ for them.

The course requirements just reflect demand for the particular course but in no way, shape or form tell you about course quality, course prospects etc. I hope that makes sense

Don't know about Loughborough for engineering but Bath's entry requirements are stupidly high for what they're offering. Last time i looked they wanted the same qualifications as Oxbridge which is ridiculous. Wouldn't recommend that uni to anyone.

Yes it does, thanks mate. I just switched my BEng choice to the MEng course since my predicted grade matches the MEng, do you think that's the right choice? Or if I stay with BEng could Surrey give me an unconditional ;o?

Ikr it's stupid, A*AA I think it is for Bath lol. Lough is AAB and A*AA for BEng and MEng though.

do you need physics for chemical engineering or just chemistry and maths ? anyone know?

Chem and Maths are essential, physics/further maths/computing etc are highly advisable but not essential

Don't worry about BEng vs MEng at this point in time. Apply for BEng and get the grades since their usually lower.

Once you're at university its your actual performance on the course that determines whether you get moved up to MEng level. The requirement is usually a 55% avg then you can be moved up to MEng (if you want to)

Likewise if you're MEng and your performance isn't good enough you'll be dropped down to BEng level.

WOW really lol? You see this is why I love TSR, helpful people like you 😂. So are you sure BEng is the right choice even though my grades are MEng level?

Yes.

Yes, positive. This is coming from someone who has graduated from engineering and has close friends from my old college who have all graduated in every core discipline Civil, Chemical and Electrical. I'll be doing an MSc myself instead of MEng because I want to specialise (MEng is a bit general).
