Hello  I have an offer for the biochemistry with a year in industry (yaya ) and I was just wondering how strict they are with offering you a place if you just miss your offer? Also, how many places are their for the course, just so that I know how big the lectures are.
I'll come to an applicant open day soon  I really hope I'll like the uni as much as I do now without having seen it yet as I'm thinking of making it my firm :colondollar:

Hi LonyDhr  Can you just confirm which course specifically you have applied for, e.g. International Politics and/with one of the languages.

Once I've heard back I'll pass your questions on to the admissions team.

Thanks

I applied for International Politics BSc with a proffessional training year (L292). If you could just tell me more about what is done in this extra year and the various places or groups in association with which the students are trained. I am of course asking specifically for my course..

I have an offer for International Hospitality and Tourism management. I just wonder how many people on average are on this course? It is the majority of students are international on this course?

Hi JessicaJS  I’ve heard back from the admissions team about your first question, and unfortunately we can't really say for sure how strict the offers will be on the day. This is due to the fact that we won't know how many people meet their offer conditions until results day, and we go into the confirmation and clearing process. I'm sorry we can't be any more helpful on this right now! Closer to results day UCAS will release plenty of information on what to do if you miss out on your offer conditions. In the meantime try not to worry too much and focus on your studies

I’m just waiting to hear back about the number of places there are likely to be on the course so will let you know ASAP.

Hi JessicaJS,

I have just been informed that Biochemistry took about 50 applicants last year and this is likely to be the same again this year. Some of the lectures will be shared with other programmes within the school so some lectures will have a higher number of people. In general the school takes around 300 people.

I hope this helps, let us know if you have any more questions

Hi both,

Thanks for your questions, I have passed these on and get back to you asap.
Hi! I have an offer for Biology and I'm just wondering whether it will affect my application if I don't attend an applicant day? I came up to an open day in September, and can't really afford the transport or get the time off work to come to an applicant day.

Hi muzika,

This course has a mixture of students from the UK and overseas, which means you’ll have the chance to meet people from a variety of backgrounds and countries and share ideas from your own experiences. There are around 50 students on our first year course at the moment, but your class sizes would be much smaller than this allowing you to really get to grips with the subject in detail.

I hope this helps, but if you need more information there’s a huge amount of detail here: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/undergraduate/international-hospitality-and-tourism-management

Also, if you have any more queries please let us know.

Hi AventX,

There are about 80 people on this course, although our numbers do change slightly each year. We teach via lectures, tutorials and in computer labs, and with the various optional modules on offer, particularly in the third year, they’ll be lots of variety. Lectures naturally allow for a larger number of students to present whereas tutorials are much more focussed with smaller groups of students.

I hope this is useful, let us know if there is anything else that we can help you with.

Hi kalam23,

It sounds as though there are a few courses you are considering. There’s some great information about our Surrey Business School here: http://www.surrey.ac.uk/sbs/index.htm which lists all of the different courses you can undertake involving business. For example, there’s also Business Retail Management and Accounting and Finance programmes too.

The great thing about Surrey is that we provide real-world business problems in our programmes, but also in our professional training placements. Generally speaking we have between 60-70 people on these courses, but it does change slightly every year. We teach through a variety of methods, including lectures, tutorials and computer labs. They’ll be some lectures that all business students will need to take so that might be up to 200 students, but they’ll be many where it will be just the students on your course, or you’ll be small classes between 10-20 students.

I hope this helps

Hi LonyDhr,

We don’t have specific numbers just for International Politics but there are around 50 places for all of our Politics degrees. This includes all of our joint honours programmes such as Politics and Economics or Politics combined with a language.

Our professional training year will allow you take either a subject-specific placement (in your case politics) or study this subject overseas. In both cases, the placement allows you to apply and develop your understanding, as well as discover new approaches and element. Our current and previous providers include: Save the Children, IPSOS MORI, Cape Town Refugee Centre, Transport for London, GlaxoSmithKline, International School of Central Switzerland, and the Shadow Defence Secretary's Office, as well as a range of political parties (Conservative, Labour and the Socialist Workers Party). We endeavor to offer placements for all as we believe this year provides you with the chance to experience first-hand how politics operates in the ‘real world’.

Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with

Hi Stripes23,

Congratulations on your offer! We strongly encourage students to attend the Biological Science applicant day as you will have the opportunity to talk to current students and academics, hear about the course structure in more detail and view the laboratories. However, we completely understand that this is not always possible so if you are unable to attend then this won’t affect your offer. Please do let us know if you have any questions though, and we’ll make sure that have all the information you need to make an informed choice.
