Well you don't need them but it makes the admissions process easier. Maybe look at the entry requirements for medical schools to see which ones you could get into with your GCSEs as each medical looks at things differently. For example, Cardiff interviews based of GCSEs alone so unless you have 7A*s, you are unlikely to get an interview. Southampton is UKCAT heavy. But Bristol mainly looks at your personal statement out of a range of factors.

As long as you meet the requirements at A Level, your GCSE grades shouldn't make a difference.

Your GCSEs are more than good enough for medicine. You don’t NEED a high UKCAT score but it will definitely open up more choices if you score higher on it.
