:ciao: Hi and Welcome! :ciao:

This blog was first made as I was due major surgery to correct a tracheo-oesophageal fistula (TOF) which was diagnosed a month before the first-ever COVID-19 lockdown in the UK. The condition is rare whereby only seventeen other adults have this type of TOF worldwide . The fistula caused me to choke on food and drinks on a regular basis

The plan for this blog was to just keep track of my days before surgery and hopefully get to know some new people on TSR :hi: it will also gave me something to focus on which certainly helped! BUT my goal now is to document my adventures through college, applying to university maybe, my health, and any adventures I get to do covid-safely! :ahee:

About me:

I am a year 13 student studying Health and Social Care :woo:

-

I have a colostomy and this was placed in June 2019, aaaaaand I've finally dealt with it which has massively changed things with giving me more independence

-
I have currently applied for Child Nursing but I'm not 100% sure still whether this is my career route!
-

Am also hoping to start swimming again as I haven't since getting a colostomy last year which I'm very excited about :elefant:

-
As a de-stress activity, I love to do paint by numbers with intricate canvases  Since starting this blog I'm now onto my second which is 2 elephants but stay tuned for more updates on it :ahee:

My stressful long and boring medical background

I was born with a rare syndrome called VACTERL, it affects my spine, bowels, trachea, oesophagus, kidneys, and my bladder . I live with a colostomy which I am coming to terms with :rave: and I have undergone around twenty surgeries in the last seventeen years.

On January the 6th I had a follow-up appointment with my surgeon who repaired my TOF fistula, they have booked me in for an endoscopy and bronchoscopy +/- a dilation if they find a stricture which means apart of the oesophagus is tightened :eek3:

It's because for the last few months I've started to choke on foods and drinks as well as having food become a 'stickie' which isn't the nicest! With everything going on with COVID I think it will be quite sometime before getting an admission date but we will see! :yep:

I am also waiting to see my new neurosurgeon because my peads neurologist is thinking that I might have tethered cord which means scar tissue tethers to the spinal column and is causing me a whole host of issues such as numbness in the legs, back pain, bladder issues, and I struggle to stand for more than five-ten minutes . I'm quite worried about the results of this scan as it will define whether I need spinal surgery or not but with everything it's just a waiting game to see what happens and whenever I know anything I'll update everyone!

I hope you enjoy this blog and thank you to anyone who stays around! :woo: :wavey:

Best of luck for the surgery! Sounds pretty complicated, so I hope it goes well. Could I be added to the tag list too?

Thank you! I don’t know too much about the actual surgery either as the surgeon spoke to my parents when I got diagnosed as I had an general anaesthetic for an endoscopy. So I’m waiting on another phone call next week to find out keep about it

And of course, I’ll add you now

That's the plan for relaxing! I'm starting out on some new Netflix programs to pass the time as it feels like each hour is dreading now. Thank you so much for reading my other blog and this message was so nice to read. Massive thank you :hugs:

Very pleased, I've been waiting so long for this surgery and my choking episodes have gotten worse, I feel like the next two weeks will feel like forever!

Ooh very nice :awesome: idk about medical books but
would definitely recommend The Hunger Games and the Percy Jackson series if you haven't already read them (Percy Jackson I would say is definitely more lighthearted compared to Hunger Games though :yep: )
