Canadian Elective Help

Hi everyone,
I'm currently in my 4th year and I'm hoping to do my elective in Canada next year. I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the application process, as the AFMC portal is not proving particularly helpful.

I've completed my part of the Home School Verification form, and once my medical school have completed their section I am told I will be sent account details to log in and view the different universities. From what I've read. you then have to enter a lottery system? This is what I'm not too sure about. Is the lottery one big lottery and if you secure a spot, you then go on to select the university you wish to go to and view and apply for electives? Or are the lottery systems separate for each university? So for example, if I wanted a shot at both British Columbia and McGill for example, do I apply to both lottery systems and then if I get through on both I then choose one and apply for electives there? Any explanation that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated!!

Any other words or wisdom or advice would be great, thanks guys
