UCAS & Offer Open Days

Slightly confused parent here. So student’s submit UCAS application with their 5 choices. Hopefully receive some offers. At which point do you have to choose your firm/insurance? How long can you hold these places - is it until results day? With regards to Offer Open Days is it only your firm & insurance you can Re visit? Thank you 😊

Students have to apply to ucas by the equal consideration deadline in January. Universities make decisions by May. When a student has all their offers rejections ucas gives a date they have to decide by. The earliest is May but it can be later dependent on when universities make decisions. Offer holder days are usually held in Feb/March and universities invite applicants they have made offers to attend not just firm/insurance. After this date and attending these offer days students need to choose firm and insurance by the date ucas has given.

The idea of an offer holder day is to convince an applicant to choose the university. Universities make several times the numbers than there are places as they are aware that most dont choose them and others wont make the grades.

You can visit any offer holder days you like. It's commonly recommended to visit as many as is practical, they will live there for 3-4 years afterall . Depending on dates they should be useful in deciding on Firm and Insurance choices.
