Standard of Medical Student Placement at Aston University not as stated.

I think before parents commit to Aston University for Medicine they need to ask for the details of the places that students will be placed for training. The information for GP placements states they should be rated at least Good by the CQC but some of the practices being used when I check before visiting have not been visited by the CQC or have a need improving rating. We take on so much debt we should be paying for what is published when we applied. Can students refused to be placed with a NHS GP trainer not rated or rated needs improvement??
Hey there, thanks for posting a question in the Medicine forum.

I don't think so but if you can you may have to find a replacement GP practice
best to ask the medical school if you're unsure about things like this (just send them an email)
Hi, I've moved your thread to the current medical students and doctors forum so hopefully you can get more input and discussion

I do not think it should be up to the student to challenge . So placements are not all to the same standards across universities. They should just be honest and say so, then we would know what we are paying for is not the same and make an informed choice when accepting offers.

Surely it's students who are committing to Aston not helicopter parents?

The CQC are just another stick state bureaucracy uses to beat GPs with. I wouldn't reject a medical school offer based on this sort of thing.
Have a look at the hospital ratings. UHB/Heartlands/Good Hope/SWBH. All of them are requires improvement in several (some nearly all) categories. Are you going to reject placements at these hospitals too?

Only BCH/BWH pass muster according to CQC.
