Returning back to UNI

Hello, student finance.
I would like to return to my studies and study a new course.
I have studied two years on a three years course + 1 year gift so that means I have two years left?
I also have a overpayment of £2000.
It will be on open university.
I would like to know how much I would be funded.
Part time and full time.

Hi there,

Can you confirm what course you will be studying and how long for? When will you start this new course? Did you receive a qualification from your previous course? Was your previous course full time?

Thanks,
Claire

I will be studying health care management.
3 years.
will start November
I didn’t receive a qualification.
previous course was full time.

Every student is entitled to funding for the length of their course plus one additional year, minus any previous study. This means if your new course is FT 3 years the calculation would be 3+1=4-2=2 years left of finance given in the final years of your new course. This means you would not receive Tuition Fees in year 1 and Maintenance Loan and Supplementary Grants if applicable.

You said you will be doing the new course through Open University. This changes the funding as OU is funded under our Part Time finance. Open University students are eligible for a Tuition Fee Loan only, unless you're doing the course Distance Learning due to a disability and can provide proof of this, you may be eligible for the Part Time Maintenance Loan. If you decide to study with the OU, then you should be eligible for Tuition Fees for the duration of the course.

Thanks,
Claire

What about if I want to complete the degree in 3 years.
Am I still eligible for tuition fee only?
I don’t want to take 6 years finishing the degree.
I checked OU there’s a option for that

OU students are only eligible for Tuition Fee Loan only unless doing the course distance learning due to disability.

Yes I understand.
But I would like to know will I still be eligible if I want to finish my course in three years?
Instead of 6?

Hi there,

Yes, you can complete the course in a shorter duration however, it will be the same funding type. Hope this helps.

Thanks, Clare

Yes I understand tuition only!
I just want to re-clarify
if I want to get my bachelor’s in 3 years that’s still classified as part time funding?
right?
because I know people go to OU for part time uni which is like 6 years?
but if I want to do it 3 will I still get funded for all credits?
thank you!

Hi there,

Open University courses are always classed as part-time, that's right. If the Open University are happy to let you do this in 3 years then that's fine too, you'll still apply for part-time funding with us.

Thanks, Graeme
Thank you that’s all I needed to know!
