what are the steps it takes to be a medical professor, and lecturer? I really want to go into the academic side of research / writing papers with others etc so I was wondering what the process is like. thanks!

You would typically start in an academic role at a university with a bachelors degree at minimum. The role may titled something like “research assistant”.
Professor is somewhat of an end of career goal and requires substantial evidence of contribution to a specific field of study, through both research and tutoring.
You would need a PhD, which may be obtained prior to academic employment or during, either by the typical thesis route or by publication.
