Ipad vs Laptop 2023 - for East Asian Languages Students

I know this question has been asked to death, but specifically for current students studying an East Asian language - do you prefer taking notes on a laptop or tablet with a pen? Asking this specifically if in terms of practising writing out the characters in the language you're learning, it'd be better for memory recall or certain classes/exercises (so in my case I will be studying Japanese, so for learning kanji) or a waste of money.
