Speech and Language therapy

Hi i am planning to do speech and language therapy in 2024
i am extremely confused about the nhs bursary and tuition loan
Does the nhs fund the whole of the tuition loan or will I still need to apply for a student loan from student finance.
I am also confused about the grants and bursary.
When is the deadline to apply

What you can apply for varies depending on the country you are going to be studying in - England, Scotland or Wales.

If studying in England, you apply for student finance as normal (both tuition and maintenance loans) and then you can apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund for an annual training grant and other benefits. More details here:

If you study in Wales, the NHS Wales bursary covers tuition fees and offers some maintenance support in return for working in Wales for 2 years on graduation. In addition, you can apply to top up the maintenance support from your student finance body (SFE if you normally live in England, SFW if you live in Wales) by applying for a maintenance loan. However, the amount of maintenance loan English-domiciled students can receive is half that of Welsh-domiciled students. Alternatively, you can forgo the NHS Wales bursary and just apply for student finance as normal. (Have a look at this thread: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=7380254 )

Scotland doesn't appear to offer any NHS funding so you would just rely on student finance if you study there.

No. The NHS England bursary is for medics and dentists - not the Allied Health Professions.

Where will you be studying?

So as above, apply for student finance as normal (both tuition and maintenance loans) and then you can apply for the NHS Learning Support Fund when applications open around Spring 2024. The deadline to apply for the NHS LSF is up to 6 months after you start your course.
