A level Resit Candidate

Hello everyone,
I am currently in the process of independently resitting 2 of my A Levels. I am concerned about the need for references and predicted grades for UCAS and applications for degree apprenticeships. I have an exam centre that I am going to apply to, to officially resit my exams. Do they provide references and predicted grades for me, if I choose to use their tutors or do they not? Can a tutor provide predicted grades and references for me. I am worried about asking my sixth form as they most likely to say no.

Hey Samirahk,
I just finished applying UCAS as a private candidate as I'm resitting next year. I've been having tuition privately so one of my tutors did my reference and predicated grades. All you need is someone who has taught you academically to do your reference and you'll be fine. DM if you want more help

Many schools / colleges will still give you a reference even if you are resitting on a gap year etc, and some will also give you predicted grades - just give them a call after 2 Jan and ask.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your response. I would love to know more about your ucas process, as I have yet to still submit mines. I am planning on getting a tutor in January and hoping they can provide me with a reference!

Hello pls I want to resit my a level but I don’t have a tutor to do my reference and predicted grade and my school has refused to help me. Can you explain how you were able to get a tutor and also how you completed your application as a private candidate

Hi there! I’ll try my best to explain/help. My sixth form still had access to my UCAS, so they basically just sent in my old UCAS application with my old predicted grades but with a new personal statement and I had to include in my UCAS that I was resitting 2 A levels, then my sixth form just sent it off for me. I was extremely lucky in that sense and I am forever grateful. In your situation I recommend you to find an A level exam centre which offers predicted grades for you. I know the exam centre that I went to do offer UCAS and give predicted grades by making sure you do a mock exam with them. However, this often comes at a high price. Best advice is to do your research on an exam centre that offers these services including resit exams but at a reasonable price. You can always try and apply for funding to help you with your resit journey. Or what you can do is find a tutor, who will be able to give you predicted grades after doing a few sessions with them. If you have any more questions feel free to ask 🙂 good luck!!
