Ucas referee as a private candidate
Can you choose anyone to be your referee and wright you an academic reference? Weird question but is the course you are applying to , the referee must somehow be related to it like i am applying for a mechanical engineering course does my referee have to be my old alevel maths or physics teacher?

It doesn't have to be a related subject teacher, (although if you had one, they might be able to comment more on your suitability for that specific course). But in many cases, another teacher will be more familiar with your academic work.
