Firstly, she is pro-fox hunting, something I am very much against. And secondly she is against wind farms as they are an eye-sore.

Oh noes, she is pro-fox hunting and agains wind farms, what will you do when you disagree on something that is actually controversial.

Grow up.

Nothing wrong with healthy debate. But it depends... I highly doubt her agreement with fox-hunting etc will impact on your relationship. It's when you talk about things that could potentially affect your relationship that may be a problem if there is disagreement such as beliefs about marriage, also religion etc.
For everyone trivialising te fox hunting thing, surely supporting cruelty to animals says a lot about a person.

So I'm pretty much on the verge of having this girl as my girlfriend. The only problem is, she seems to have very different opinions to me over a couple of controversial issues. Firstly, she is pro-fox hunting, something I am very much against. And secondly she is against wind farms as they are an eye-sore.

I haven't really expressed my own opinions on the matters, but I know how she feels.

Reading back through my post, I can see how this seems a bit petty, and something I should just overlook, but these are things I am quite passionate about. Has anyone had any experiences similar to mine? Do you think we could work?

End the relationship now, that woman of yours, how can she be fore the slaughter of innocent animals for the pure adrenaline of the hunt.

She must be posh then; score, that means she's hot and classy.

Either avoid it, or enjoy the disagreements and have "arguments" over them....always fun, especially if it gets fiesty!

imo if you talk about politics, religion, economics or any of that sort of thing with girls you like, you're an idiot.

It only leads to arguments, no one cares about your views, and it's not fun to talk about them.

I'm incredibly glad my boyfriend doesn't share this point of view.

Fox hunting was brought in for a reason. Foxes are a pest and they're moving into the towns. You don't see people campaigning against the use of pesticides on insects.

Did you know that Charles Darwin's wife Emma was a Christian? She wrote letters to her husband telling him she didn't want their different beliefs to seperate them, in fact over the years they had many conversations on their differing views on Christianity and promised to be open about their beliefs, they went on to have 10 kids.

Why not take a leaf out of their book?

The wind farms thing isn't something to get too worried about but the fox-hunting would bother me quite a bit...my ex and I used to fight over 'controversial' issues but then decided not to bring them up anymore; and stopped fighting (over that ). But as someone said before ^, depending on the issue it can say a lot about who a person really is...obviously noone can give you really specific advice though, without knowing you both.

This. Just because its fluffy and 'cute' doesn't mean its any less of a pest.

Its like that useless lump commonly known as a Panda. It can't even be bothered to reproduce yet millions are spent on trying to save it.

Man up OP.

I disagree with this. I'd pick my right hand over a fox hunter absolutely any day of the week.

What if she was Susan Coffey?
I'm a catholic libertarian, my gf is an atheist socialist. We're on two and a half years now, you'll be fine.

Try to continually convince her of your viewpoint until she dumps you.

i guess you suit each other then, but personally i hate arguing.

People are fairly set in their ways when it comes to politics and the like, you're not going to convince your other half to take your point of view if he doesn't already hold it, and it's fairly stressful/annoying to try and do so.

I prefer to spend the majority of my time talking about more fun things
Be careful- I hear sleeping with tories causes your balls to shrink and your foreskin to go blue.

True, but it's fun! (To be fair, we also agree on most of the things we discuss.)

I think if I were in a relationship with someone who didn't talk about important issues such as politics, religion, or economics, it would slowly get rather boring. Are you just going to sit in silence for the relationship?

it's not that i don't like sharing opinions, but if you differ in views and can't just accept the other person's view and let it be, then it will always lead to an argument.

people are stubborn, they don't like being told their wrong so it's not like you're going to have a reasoned discussion.

and there are much more enjoyable things to talk about anyway, i don't think anyone would ever call politics, or economics "fun".

I mean, it's interesting, it's important but it's just not fun

that's the thing then isn't it, if you share views then talking about it is fine. But if you're on opposite sides of the fence i think it's best to leave it be.
