The Student Room Group

How do friendships develop?

Well at my school I've been used to the same four guys and two girls I hang around with, for 7 years.
Now I'm at uni, after leaving everyone behind, I have been struggling to get to know people this year. Here are my stages of both success and unsucessfulness:

Studenthouse
For instance, when I got to my studenthouse, I got on with none of the people there because there wasn't even one person I could "click" with.

The coursemate
Eventually I found one guy I could click with on my course (I'm doing a computer science degree). We are now close mates.

Trying to get more than one friend
Then I started trying to make other friends but I came across as too desperate.

The one friend, friends of friends rule
Then I thought to myself. It is better to just stick with my one friend and be happy, then get to know his friends and let the friendships develop slowly, which they have! Except Im stuck in a bad situation. They won't let anyone into their group and arent that outgoing. This makes it hard for me to meet new people.

But the problem is...
If I try to socialise with anyone else now I will come across as to desperate, people would have formed their social groups by now, it will take ages to find an outgoing someone to click with me and most certainly of all I will be spreading myself to thinly amongst friends as I have the other group.

Help!

you have to relax about it. the moment it becomes an issue in your head, you become conscious about it.
