we are doing merchant of venice the play and we see in the book that they are trying to convey to us the relationship between antonia and bassanio and my English teacher keeps saying they are gay what? can some please clarify this

It is a school of thought accepted by some critics and readers, yes.

Some people believe that Antonio is homosexual but there is no real evidence to support this in the play - it is a widely accepted interpretation though :yep:

Other people tend to view Antonio as a fatherly figure to Bassanio, and believe that he is simply doing whatever he can to ensure that Bassanio is happy, whatever the consequences.
