Help on paying for uni?!?

So basically I'm currently in year 13 doing my A-levels and It's that time of year when I have to start looking at universities.

I know I want to go and I know that I want to study something Art related.

However after researching about grants ect....
Due to my household income being over £50,000 I am not able to receive anything financial wise.

My family are not in the position to support me money wise and I'm kinda stuck on what to do. I don't want to take a gap year as I want to go straight into uni.

If anyone who is currently in uni or is going to uni who is in the same situation I'd be grateful if you could give me some direction.

I get the minimum loan which just about covers my rent. Then my parents give me £200 a month for food and books and stuff, and I have three part time jobs.

I think in your situation a job would be the best option

This may be changing for 2017/2018 but it will be along the same lines

For 2016/2017
With a household income of £50k/yr, studying away from home & outside of London, you would be eligible for
- a loan to cover all tuition fees
- £5256 maintenance loan (with the minimum available being £3821, which is available regardless of income - https://www.ucas.com/connect/blogs/changes-maintenance-grants-and-loans)

The maintenance loan should cover your accommodation, so I'd get a part time job (now) and save up to cover your weekly expenses (if your parents can't/won't give you £4-5k for uni). Remember you should be able to keep this job at uni - supermarkets often let you transfer branches - so don't worry if you don't actually have as much money as you'd like right before you go to uni :smile:

Thanks for the advice.
I will definitely be getting myself a job soon.

It's my parents who are more worried/annoyed as they won't be able to help out a lot financially due to them trying to pay off the mortgage.

But respect to you for having 3 jobs, I wouldn't know how to cope.

I've only skimmed the site that the link is addressed to however it seems it's for English students. I'm from South Wales would this still apply to me if I were to go study in England?

I just can't find any information about what to do other than get a loan/job.

You can get £4637 without providing financial information.

Part of your tuition fee coverage is not a loan, it's a grant (which you won't need to pay back)

It doesn't mention anything about studying outside of Wales being different but I'd ask a teacher (or someone in the student finance forum http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=545 ) to make sure

Its the responsibility of your parents to help pay the difference between max grant and what you get.
If they arent going to, then you cna take a gap year, get a job and earn the extra money you need.
You cna ofc also get a job whilst at uni.
