Masters Uni application help. Do my prior results matter?

I am applying for a masters degree and i need a bit of advice. I perfomed poorly in my 1st & 2nd year of uni. My marks were 40%-58%. In my final honours year, I got 63% - 66% in all my modules (they were specialised in finance) and a 45% in my dissertation (It was an accounting topic and had a really tough time and covid didn't help). So my final degree award was a 2.2, 57% overall.

I really want to apply for an MSc Banking and Finance at a middle tier uni and I was wondering how they would feel about my results. I meet the minimum entry requirements of a 2.2 and my personal statement is excellent. Will they still reject me based on my early marks and dissertation result?
A lot of unis offer differing options in regards to grades and personal circumstances. I think this year especially they are being more lenient and looking at how (if grades were affected by Covid and unforeseen circumstances) you would of done.

If I was in a unis position I would give you a place based on your good statement and you did meet entry requirements of a 2:2. But all places differ!

I got an overall 2:2 in first year and in second year, but got my ass in gear enough in third year to drag everything up to an overall 2:1. I've been offered places at manchester, sheffield, leicester + other unis for Msc courses. I think if you technically meet their requirements, they'll only really look at the nitty gritty if the course is way oversubscribed.

One of the unis state "You should have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above (including an average mark of at least 58%)". My overall is just 56% but I got 63% or more in all my finance modules which were 5/6 modules i took in my final year

Have you applied yet? It (usually) costs nothing to apply (except if you're ****ty ****ing notts), so definitely go for it. If you're worried you could also email the course director and express your interest in the course and highlight the fact that in your final year, you significantly improved and know you can perform at that level in their course and that you hope the 56% vs 58% thing won't count too much against you.

No I haven't applied yet as I am having an issue with references. My uni has a policy in which a lecturer can only give a max of 2 references and I have already used him for Loughborough, so I am thinking really hard about my second uni application. Hence why I am a bit worried as I don't want to waste an application.

What kind of weirdass policy is that? Shouldn't the uni be encouraging their students to apply for further study so they can claim '90% of our graduates are in further study or employment'? That seems really unusual, are you definitely sure about that? Or ask another lecturer/your personal tutor?

yeh thats exactly what he emailed me. Also, I have asked other lecturers except my dissertation tutor cause we didn't get on (hence the result), and they have not written back to my email. My university is definitely not something I am proud of and that's why I am trying to get into a somewhat recognised university.

If it says the minimum requirement is a 2.2 to me this indicates the course is not competitive (if it was they’d ask for a 2,1+) I suspect as long as you have a relevant degree subject and you have a 2.2 you’ll get accepted (providing their are no other red flags on your application).

what would count as a red flag? Also, I they say "You should have a lower second-class (2.2) undergraduate honours degree or above (including an average mark of at least 58%)", I have 57% overall. My dissertation and one accounting course let me down. But all modules related to this programme I got on average 64%

Oh sorry if it specifies 58% then this actually may be an issue, you could apply anyway and see what happens (or email admissions).

A red flag is something you would know about something like plagiarism or academic misconduct or criminal record...
